After spending the last few months in the Al Waab area of Doha, I managed to stumble across this little gem, Baan Thai.
Tucked away in Furousiya Street among a street full of eateries, Baan Thai is a definite “must try” in Doha.
The Menu is quite vast and has many options regardless of your spice appetitie –
From looking at the restaurant from outside it may feel quite ordinary, when you step inside, you notice that this is a very clean oriental restaurant, which in Doha is a bit of an oddity at this price range. The place was not full and can’t imagine it would ever be unless there was an event, as the restaurant is two floors and each floor is quite large.
With the kitchen on display with the chefs at work it does have a hybrid effect of Thai street food.
Service was great, Sopa, our waitress was very attentive and vibrant and I noticed that the other waitresses work around her.
The food has a very authentic Thai feel – we went for a variety of starters, and some soups..
The portion sizes are adequate and decently priced for the portions. The only issue we had was the shrimps we ordered were not cooked properly. Although the menu does state that the dish is raw prawns the picture definitely did not look anything like what was served. But so we spoke to Sopa and she happily got them cooked and returned the dish back to us – which was delicious and spicy!
Overall, a very good place to enjoy some authentic Thai food in Doha. What this place offers over restaurants such as Thai Smile or Thai Snack is the cleanliness of the restaurant and nice ambiance.
